When it’s officially the end of the semester
Classes are done, residents are all checked out of their rooms, summer job starts June 3rd.

The Story of Fancy Skunk
Yesterday was my last day of school for the year. I’m officially halfway through my program, which is both fun and scary. Registration for next semester opens on Friday. I have to pick a fall workshop - fun! - and a thesis advisor - scary! - and then spend some time over the summer writing new stories.
I’ve set a goal of one first draft per month for the summer. If I get more than that done, good for me. But one a month feels attainable since I’ll be working part-time and would like to actually have some fun. Also, I am not the world’s fastest writer.
But let’s talk about yesterday.
I’m usually not a fan of boxed cake mixes. I think they’re flavorless and I can’t identify everything in them (sodium stearoyl lactylate - yum!), but the very idea of pina colada cookies was too good to pass up.
Apparently, this is a very popular cake mix doctor. Pina coladas? Good. Cookies? Good. My craft class is having an end-of-semester party (because that’s what grad school is for), so I figured why not.
I doubled the recipe and omitted the flour. The recipe says you may not need to add it, depending on how your dough looks after you’ve mixed in the egg and butter.
Speaking of which, little bits of unmixed butter are okay. Big pieces of unmixed butter, not so much. The butter will melt, the cookie will turn into a weird (though delicious) blob. So, be careful about the butter. Mix it in well.
